More about Academic Advising

Academic advisor assisting a student with a schedule

As an undergraduate student here at UC San Diego, you have access to a unique academic advising system. Led by your Dean of Academic Advising, your college advisors are available to help you understand your general education requirements and navigate the university’s academic expectations.

In addition to college advisors, you also have access to department advisors who can offer expert information specific to your major and career field. Your academic advising team can assist with academic planning, including study abroad and internships into your schedule, and more. You’re supported throughout your entire academic career, from admission and orientation to graduation.

See your Academic Advisor when you need help

The advising process is a partnership. You work with your advisors in collaboration and you each share responsibilities in your success. Your advisors will not make decisions for you, but will work with you to help discover your passions, talents, and plan for a fulfilling career. Academic Advisors meet one-on-one with students via appointments or walk in meetings.
